Guns, Cockfighting, and Illegal Immigrants, Oh My!

Every night, we ask viewers to vote in a flash poll during our newscast. All the questions are tangent to some story in the newscast, but each question gives a clear, accurate, entertaining reflection of our very honest viewers.  In an effort to generate as many votes as possible, producers chose questions that stir up the emotions of the viewers.  Topics close to their hearts include illegal immigrants, cockfighting, guns, tattoos, etc.  And every time, I find myself admiring the consistency of our viewers right-winged, conservative, "God bless guns and damn the illegals" mentality. For example, tonight's question was based on a local politician's push to create a tax free gun purchasing holiday.  The question read:

"Should the state support a tax-free gun purchasing holiday?"

99% of viewers voted "Yes."

(As I was reading the results, I couldn't help but think of how much fun it might be to report on the world's largest gun show ever.  Um, can I just say the mullet count would be off the chart?!  Business in the front, party in the back.)

Previous questions and results included the following:

"Should cockfighting be legalized in the state?"

99% vote "Yes".

"Should dog fighting be legalized in the state?"

99% vote "Yes".

"Should it be legal to sell automatic weapons to toddlers?"

99% vote "Yes."

"Would you support the deportation of people who look Hispanic because you think they are illegal immigrants?"

99% vote "Yes".


 (OK, so the last two are a bit of a stretch. But if the station ever had the guts to pose those questions, I would guarantee the results.)
